Cosplay

Cosplay is a portmanteau of the words “costume” and “play,” referring to the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, book, video game, comic, or other forms of media. Participants, known as cosplayers, often create or buy costumes to accurately portray their chosen characters, and they may attend events such as conventions, photoshoots, or community gatherings where they can showcase their costumes. Cosplay can involve attention to detail in the construction of costumes and wigs, as well as the performance of character traits, mannerisms, and behaviors associated with the character. The activity has evolved into a popular subculture, encompassing not only the act of dressing up but also a sense of community among enthusiasts who share a love for particular franchises or characters. Cosplay can range from casual, simple outfits to elaborate and intricate creations that showcase significant craftsmanship and creativity.
